Throughout my life there has been a thread of creating things…. painting as a child at the kitchen table with my mother, other craft works over the years, some crocheting, some knitting, some macramé, some embroidery, some bark painting, oil, watercolours, graphite…..pottery, so many different things.

An Art Foundation Course at TAFE gave me some formal training and then workshops here and there, and learning from other artists, a short course on Botanical Illustration through Newcastle Uni was another interesting learning adventure.

In the midst of introspection, some years ago, a butterfly came to me, repeatedly. This so intrigued me that I wanted to know all about that butterfly, a brilliant blue beauty with black around the edges of his wings, that I had not seen before.

Back to childhood, another unique butterfly experience….a tree just “oozing” with Wanderer butterflies, hundreds if not thousands amassed in one tree. I since have come to understand that I witnessed an overwintering site. These butterflies live up to 8 months to get them through winter. That sight was magical and never forgotten.

So was born the Butterfly Lady as I have become known in this local area. I expect many of you have followed my photos of my newly emerged butterflies on social media over the last few years or enjoyed my butterfly paintings at TAG Gallery. I am so pleased to be able to share my delight in these beautiful creatures with you. I do so hope my representations of these and other subjects resonate with you all and bring you joy.
