Artisan Bio.
Peter Rowney is a local woodworker from Lemon Tree Passage with a lifelong passion for timber and its many uses. He has lived in the area for over 30 years, and designed and built his own home from Western Red Cedar.

Having studied Industrial Arts and woodworking at college, Peter later worked as a cabinetmaker and worked in the construction industry making frames and roof-trusses, as well as working as a professional musician in Newcastle for over four decades.

Peter has a passion for timber and makes beautiful boxes and turned items using traditional handtools and methods where possible. He uses recycled and antique timbers from various sources to create unique handmade keepsake items such as jewellery boxes, trinket boxes, bowls and other sculpted items like sharks.

A feature of the display is the use of burl timber which is like a deformity on a tree that yields stunning and unique grain patterns.
