Brief description of workshop:

Using reference images of your choice, we’ll create two beautiful landscapes in either landscape (horizontal) or portrait (vertical) format.

Landscapes are a great way to ease into this amazing medium and quickly build confidence.

We’ll also discuss materials so that you can shop for art supplies with confidence.

Illustrator Bio – Victoria Kitanov

Artist & author, Victoria Kitanov’s creative career commenced in commercial art and children’s book illustration in the 1980’s and 90’s. During this period, Victoria was engaged by several publishing houses including Ashton Scholastic, Angus & Robertson, Harper Collins, Plantagenet, Harcourt Brace Jovanovich (HBJ), Eldorado, ABC Books, etc.

One highlight of her career was nomination as an official re-illustrator of May Gibbs’ iconic gum nut babies under the May Gibbs Trademark in the 1990s.

Prior to leaving her creative profession in 1998, she was frequently invited to speak at primary schools, entertaining thousands of children with on-the-spot sketching and lots of audience participation and has made regular guest appearances at Children’s Book Week and related events.

A multi-award-winning artist specialising in Australian maritime themes, Victoria is the author of Claim Your Space: A Beginners Guide to Create Your Own Artist Sanctuary, published by Ultimate World Publishing in 2022.

Over the past few years, Victoria has been teaching art to adults and children, and periodic social painting sessions (‘Scone’s Own ‘Paint & Graze’) through her company, Entrée to Arts Pty Ltd (ABN 15 615 450 809)., and in 2024, she also became the Arts Administrator with Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre, Muswellbrook Shire Council.

Requirements: Could participants please bring:

  • Reference photocopies: 1 x A4 (Black & White) + 1 x A4 (Colour)
  • Please feel free to bring any acrylic paints, brushes or other equipment
  • Any previous artwork in acrylic (don’t be shy to show it off!)
  • Your own lunch and water bottle
  • A plastic tablecloth or equivalent.

Supplied: Morning tea.

Victoria will supply:

  • 2 x 6 x 12” canvases per participant
  • Transfer paper
  • Masking tape
  • Selection of additional acrylic paints
  • Selection of additional references
  • Watercolour pencils
  • Palettes, absorbent paper, greaseproof paper, wet wipes
  • Water containers
