What the workshop will cover:

 Beginners:

Those at beginner level will colour mix and learn about different types of papers.

A simple drawing of a flannel flower will be undertaken and, after lunch, they will learn about washes whilst filling in the background of the painting.

 Intermediates:

Those at intermediate level will draw a flannel flower, then use masking fluid to fill in the flower and stretch the painting on a board. After lunch, they will wet paper and drop and splash paint on it to create a background; then remove masking fluid when dry. Then the details of flower will be painted in.

Any spare time can be used to practise washes or start a small painting of their choice i.e. painting a water scene or something else they are curious about, or interested in.

For this, participants will need their own paper, either hot or cold pressed.

 Requirements:

  • 2B pencil
  • Eraser
  • Palette or dinner plate for paint
  • Additional water colour paper if there is time to start something else
  • Lunch and water to drink if required

 Supplied:

  • Brushes;
  • Tins for water;
  • Water colour paper;
  • Tracing paper;
  • Large brushes;
  • Paints;
  • Materials to stretch water colour paper.

*It is preferred if participants bring their own paints, brushes and water colour paper

Evaluation sheet to be completed at the end of the workshop.
